Is Embracing Diversity an Issue in Your Team?

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Sometimes we include a few people from another race or gender in our team because it is something we ‘should’ do. There is growing evidence that strength in a company is directly related to the richness of its diversity. It is the ability to see the world differently that opens up new possibilities. A simple example is to consider what kind of success we would achieve as an organization if all our employees were Type A personalities? What if we didn’t have anyone to slow us down to think about the implications of our actions. On the other hand, how successful would we be if we didn’t have Type A energy to put things in motion? What would be accomplished by an organization composed only of people spending their days in introspective activities?

We are also coming to understand that age, sex, sexual preference, culture, language, personality type, and race are all part of true diversity and that the goal is more than simple tolerance. Is embracing diversity an issue in your team?

Solution:

  1. Embrace diversity and provide opportunities for all employees to build skills in cross-cultural, multi-generational communication.
  2. Build a culture around the understanding that diversity is a strategy that generates strength rather than an obligation.
